The main message of the Oulu2026 cultural programme is cultural climate change, presented through three themes: Wild City, Cool Contrasts and Brave Hinterland. Each theme will be launched with a major international flagship production.

Ancient survival skills
Kierikki is participating in the Oulu2026 programme with the Ancient Survival Skills Initiative, a project carried out in Kierikki that aims to introduce and teach prehistoric skills to modern people, emphasize community, build and support a more sustainable connection with nature, and bring ancient people closer to modern times.
Work is already underway, and the themes have been selected to guide the work and audience engagement in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
